Sow main season summer veges and flowers in containers under shelter where they will be protected from changeable weather.

Prepare vege garden soil, dig in winter green crops (or compost etc)

Soft tip cuttings can be taken from many herbaceous ornamentals and raised under shelter.

Plant out summer perenial flowers, prepare seedlings for summer flowering anuals.

cut back the triffids,  find the vege garden - discover the back yard again..........., realise that the dog is long gone now that the growth has been cleared from around the kennel, realise that the two cats you had a year ago now fill up the entire back section...............ah....spring!!

That is a new word for me.

I am getting a pergola built for the front deck and was wondering (as you know so much in this area)....would a passionfruit vine be ok to grow over a pergola?

A passionfruit vine would love it.

I have mine growing through and over a (root stock taken over) cherry tree (because i was too lazy to train it along something - I just pointed it up the trunk

Extremely untidy but the vine doesnt mind.

Fab - thanks Collie.   My sister is shouting the pergola which is so cool (for me doing her accounts throughout the year).

Our garden is a mess so I am going to try my best this summer to sort it out.  For Auckland gardens, we have a bigger garden than the normal small size or no sized gardens.  But in the winter it gets so boggy that we can't get to certain areas to weed - so I also want to do wee footpath duffers here and there so I can move around next winter and keep the gardens tidy.

I gonna try tomatoes again, I only just ripped out the stakes from last years yesterday, got a bit of a task weeding too. Already have some wild potatoes growing out from under the weeds, and last years broccoli is kind of sprouting little bits, but I don't think anythings going to happen with it

I have got some beetroot/onion/cherry toms/passionfruit seeds arriving this week so next weekend time to pop in some containers.   I have to get some lettuce as well and I was thinking garlic.

I have no idea if any of those are the right time but I will check it out this week just to make sure.  I pulled lots of weeds out of the garden today.  I think I have reacted to dirt haha - eyes have gone puffy and sore so I look like a junkie right now.

sheesh! can I have some piccys when you're in full production?

still mostly empty, just the over winter veges etc and putting in a few rows of potatoes

but gives you an idea of the size - not very big.
And Yes, is time the pony was back in there to mow the grass

but while I'm at it... my new took tooks.

and my raspberry patch

I started this patch last year, hard to believe but they are in rows, I need to tidy up the old plants and cut some bamboo to stake them, keep them under control.
... looking a fright because of all the suckers coming up that I need to shift but I'll get there.

hard to see but all of last years stems are smothered in clusters of tiny flower buds.

nothing in my garden would ever win an award for tidiness or being prettily set out.
But I don't care about that as long as it's healthy and produces.  one could call it being lazy

That is so cool and who cares if it is tidy or not - as long as the fruit and veges that come along taste damn fine then you are on to a winner.

I have done nothing yet.

I will plant the seeds this weekend...yeap I will...I promise.

you've got a SHED haven't you

Last season I created a small garden on the east side of something, and am now finding it a tad soggy - what sort of plants would do best in it? Hoping for veg or veg/flower combo.

no shed, just demolished it.
and they were on the kitchen bench, srill have to bring them
in at  night as it's still cold. at the moment we have a small raised plot
at the back door, and a strip about 1200 wide behind the garage. we have very sandy soil
so it drains quickly. good it doesn't get soggy , but needs lots of water in the summer

nicely done JJ, they look great!
I recognise a few but what are they?

(A tolerant Pinky you have there too, hubby would have a fit if I plonked plants on the kitchen bench     but then I do have sheds.)

and in a sandy soil - making compost out of your grass clippings and newspapers

and household scraps (and whatever animal manure you can get  is a great way to fix that slight problem.)

Raven - flog some sand from the river       or better still get pumice and also more soil (or compost) - lift its level above the rest of the area and hey presto you will have an awesome patch as well.

That is so cool and who cares if it is tidy or not - as long as the fruit and veges that come along taste damn fine then you are on to a winner.

did you?

I've got more seedlings to plant out - I got lazy, bought them - went to the cheapest place we have around here  about half the price of the garden centres and the likes of mitre 10 but still nearly died at what the price added up to.

They have doubled in price over the last year   eek

and I'm way to stingey to accept that.

no huh.

but yep, lovely weather     that makes me happy.

I just planted a row of red potatoes (4th row all up)  Red onions and beetroot.

eek  got a bit of a red theme going there

Seriously wondering if I dare plant a couple of rows of sweet corn already, normally an October thing.
Also noticed my strawberries are flowering like crazy  soo cited

It's a pretty time of year, with so many plants flowering.

And the blueberries are smothered in buds (and weeds    )  Though that'll only take an hour or so to clean up. Pretty much decided today that I'll buy a couple more blueberry plants so I can get more like a over flowing cupful of berries a day instead of just a handful.

Next after getting the veges and berry plants sorted is attacking the flower gardens for a gorgeous bright summer display.

Brought to you by dab   so this is where pee got the get down and dirty Cyyly idea

A tip for you - wear gloves.

Those showa brand ones are great - cotton gloves dipped in rubber over the palm and fingers but leaves the top of your hand just cotton so your hands dont sweat. Depending on the shop costs between $11.00 - 16.00
