poor darlings.

... our woof'er has taken a shine to my man (not concerned, not picking up any of those vibes, she just simply likes him) but I reminded him I could read minds so he better keep his thoughts pure.. he laughed, told me he was too busy anyway and seriousy told me he knew I could read minds...what a hoot!  Then I started suggesting that he took her whitebait fishing when the tide was right but then thought about the fact that the two of them would be alone on a river bank?????       He left laughing his head off, thinking I'm jealous

as emsea must be too busy throwing balls around and having drinkies and you sound kinda impatient here, to put it briefly there is a tiny protein fragment in the milk of some cows.  Some cows produce a1 milk some A2 - the A2 doesn't have that fragment of protein in it.  That A 1 protein supposedly can cause all sorts of disease, or atleast aggravate them.

In Auckland there is a group of farmers with only A2 milk producing cows and they sell their own milk (I think - don't quote me) a few yrs ago there was all this talk about how cow farmers could get a premium fee for their 'superior' milk... never happened as far as I know... but then we're into far superior GOATS milk now

Hi ya, Collie has a better grip on the A1A2 I think than I have.  I just know that A2 is more beneficial for you.

A2 milk was pushed years ago and it didnt take off too quickly.  I havent seen the media today and so dont know what all this hype is about.  I have been in hospital with my son for most of the afternoon and evening, with an asthma attack.  All is OK right now, he is home, I have a portable nebuliser on standby.

All I know was that when A2 came out everyone was going to have a 'crack' and breeding their cows to A2.  Well, I found this very little known 'obscure' paper hidden in the cyber cupboards at LIC.  It said that Fresian cows with the A2 gene will have higher litreage average and Jersey cows with the A2 gene will have lower litreage.  Since we milk Jerseys, I stopped being interested.  The A2 people have not told 'jo public breeder' this little tidbit tho...

Its all just media hype tho.....

They publish something every now and then just to give everyone something to think about.

Like currently there is a cow family that has been isolated that produces skim milk.  Great!  But I dont get paid for low fat and protein, so that was a waste of my 3% industry good


Or the genome advancement stuff...  yeah, whatever.  Give us some stuff that will make the dairy farmer an incentive that WILL give revenue in real terms.......

the govt has just decided to allocate $11million for the next 5 years on this disease, that costs NZ farmers in the region of $88million per annum!!!!!  and looking at developing gene markers!!! (< good luck on that one... if the University in Wisconsin solely dedicated to Johnes hasnt done it yet, then I dont hold much hope) eek

   - just gotta make sure they spend it properly... last lot of money ($600,000) was spent on 4 odd phone calls, which I could have done for them.....

tis personally a 'pet subject' of mine

NZ has the highest rate of Johnes disease in the world.  Other countries it is a notifiable disease, yet here it isnt.

sorry WR for laughing, But it is laughable for a dairy farmer,  but yes we have, and every farmer on our road!!!!!  it is prevalent on probly 75% of NZ farms......
Yet most farmers dont know they have it.  It is very hard to diagnose in the sub clinical stages.

Its not a disease you have and then dont have.   Once you have it, it will take about a decade to eradicate it from your farm with effective management.
