« on: Mon 19 May, 2008 - 02:12 pm »

So we went here on saturday night
We had been told about it and as westy and i appear to have been
italian in past lives we throught we would try it.
(you know, getting late no dinner out, feck theres that place)

So our first hint should have been that the decor was soooooooooo
dated, but we have been to quirky places that do great food before so
dated not usually an issue.

The lady behind the counter told us we were lucky to get in
as they had 2 large tables booked an hour appart that night..
(another hint really....hr apart a good place can cope...and adding it up in my head when we got in they still would have had 4 doubles and 2 four tables open even if both large tables had been seated in there at the same time)

Second hint should have been the way the pizza where discribed
(i actually said to westy doesnt sound  very italian but some did.)
They also do take out, but this didnt worry me, since there is a place in Roto's that is small and open few hours but is authentic italian OMG taste food that does the same......and we were told you must go.

It BYO so good thing the holly is across the road (upside found a bottle i have been lookin for) and as i sore later the orande juice looked like "tang"
So the garlic bread was authentic italian pizza bread..not bad..but not the best i have had.

Westy got a spicie vegie spagetti entree which was ment to be med
but the sause actually made his eyes water nearer the bottom and he didnt think it tasted like really freash pasta.
I had the chicken fettecine entree which was really good... and i should add
these entrees werent tiny which was a up side. Westy ate his and half of mine (which cooled down his mouth)

Then the pizza came.... (westy had seen the pizza with everything so thats what he ordered it..it didnt list what everything was)
Now maybe im a italian pizza purist... but they dont really do an everything pizza, authentic ones are about flavour than how much you can shove on.
This pizza arrived on a small dinner plate .... it did have everything....
salami,ham,onions,pinapple,anchovies,capers,4 olives, mushroom etc and seafood (grrrrrrr) and they had thick layers of each.... so not scattered or sprinkled on but thick layers of each...

It was cut into 4 bits so gives you an idea of size again
so ever the well lets give it ago we try it.
Now we had asked for plates and because you could see it was
the way it was i grabbed a fork
took a bit off and hello it was cold and soggy.
westy had bitten in and we both looked at each other.
nah i said thats not gonna fly

I call the waitress over
and asked her to feel it. (cause surely its got seafood and its soggy they aint going to try fix it)
she says sorry, takes it to the pizza lady (who is different to the pasta chef)
She comes back and says "well we can put it back in for you"
!!!
im like ummmm noooooo
we have been feeling that...with our fingers (the 2 bits we have tried
you can do something with the other pieces (thinking of westys belly)
but i dont want thos bits.
Well i think they just took them and put it in the microwave

Westy was sitting there pulling it apart
and it was just nasty. It was so think with sherred  ham it was of course
going to be soggy.

So we left. we were charged for half a pizza.
yes the pasta was great, but hell the rest was absolute rubbish
 pasta 7
rest 0

yeah well i throught it sounded a bit blah
but trusted the guys (bad move)
and seen places with tacky names they had for years
do good food
its been open since 86
just figured it was a family owned place
like alot of italian places that had been going for ever

reality is we shouldnt have been charged for the pizza
at all, westy and i only had that one bite
he couldnt eat it when it came back

A PROPER traditional italian pizza has only cheese on it. Thats it! Nothing else except maybe some herbs like oregano or something.

I used to work in an italian pizzaria off and on for about 9 years and it was quite funny because sooooo many people would come in and say "can I get a real italian pizza" and wed say "ok - thatll be the cheese one" and theyd say "oooo no, I want an italian one" and wed say "well that would be the cheese one".

People would say "oh, I dont want that then"....they seen to think ones that have "salami and olives" or something like that are real italian ones. and no matter what ya tell them - they dont wanna know.
