  hi talula,

the farming people are out on their farms, but could pop in at any time, and hopefully be able to give you some advice.

are the calves born with the gunk or it coming on in the first few days?
might help to throw up some more details

where are the calves kept, routine, feeding, meds, etc

nah, you need to go to the vets - get a tube or two of anitbiotic eye ointment to use on them.  The teabag is greats for gently cleansing the gunk away and making them feel more comfortable but what you are talking about is a contagious eue infection.

There is a mastitis treatment that you also use for conjunctivitis.  Check with the vet its either Orbenin MC or Clavulox MC.  But it is exactly the same product they will give you for eye treatment, cept the eye stuff costs a little bit more.

Yes it will spread fast.

I would be looking at why you have got it in the first place.

You got concrete floors? or poorer drainage in your pens???  Get down on your hands and knees and smell the floor.  If ya can smell urine, thats where the conjunctivitis is coming from.  I have had it in a pen from that before.
If it does smell uriney, act ASAP to clear it.  You can get also inhalation pneumonia in your calves if ya dont drain it/clean it out.

good luck.
