If you buy a brand new ride on mower how much maintenance would you expect other than oil changes and annual servicing?

I've had problems with mine after 2 hours, first it wouldn't shift between 1st and second speeds and would only lock into the 3rd speed. Now it's shuddering and the guy says you need to get a spanner and make adjustments and will have to keep doing that periodically. seems crappy to me so what's normal guys?

sounds suss to me to... i dont have a ride on but would think if you using it on  a farm you not be stopping every 2 hrs to adjust... if it brand new there may be a settling in period with it all but that seems to much maintenence.

an excellent point.

he was going to email me instructions and started getting very patronizing about did i know how to use a spanner grrrr  i didn't bother explaining i just fixed the spa and that required a wrench and a screwdriver.

but i did say to him that i don't expect a brand new mower to not be able to slot into all the speeds and to only go directly from 1st to 3rd speed

also that i thought it was dodgy that when i bought it he told me that i might have trouble getting it into reverse and that i'd have to try a few times but it would soon come right. i mean it's not like a pair of shoes that need wearing in!!

oh and he insisted it was all operator error (cos us dumb shielas know nothing about machinery) so i told him he could take the blardy thing back and refund me. then he goes if you're going to be rude to me i won't give you your money back, so i said it's a piece of crap and the consumer guarantees act means you're obligated to refund me. then he started bleating about how that's not true if you sell on TM. i said not true mate, you're a professional trader and the act applies to businesses on tm.

so then he growled about me not using it again (obviously cos the little woman might further destroy it) and he would collect it. thank goodness for that

never had this problem before with ride ons. they've all been a piece of cake to use

you'd say what the jerk said or what the girls said??? any more champers

i spoke to my mechanic and he said that there must be something wrong with the linkage (tuned out the rest of the boring man talk) with it not adjusting speeds, but that needing to put it into reverse a few times was normal if it has no synchromesh. what else? oh yeah the dropping down gears and speeding itself up was dangerous (that was the first mower i sent back)
