The Chinese aren't stoopid.

far from it....just look at the students here, they put kiwi students to shame.

They are the new world order.......which has grown from the old world order.

We can learn so much from them and the smart will embrace these people.

hi Gordy,

yes, good on them....true sportsmanship,
i'm still gobsmacked..i watched it till the end...but i did crash out for a small part..i managed to catch the lighting of the torch, it was beautiful and i almost shed a tear.

looking at the some of athletes faces, there were quite a few that looked completely overawed at what they were witnessing.

totally blown away here...the martial arts was Tai Chi Chuan (imho the best martial art there is). an art practiced by 25% of the worlds population... they are mostly chinese.

i not see any of it...

thats a shame cus it was spectacularly unbelievable.

i have been searching for youtube clips to no avail.

the highlights this arvo was just a mall snippet and they missed out a whole heap of the brilliance.

i hope tv1 will make dvd's available.

When was Tai Chi Chuan first documented?

I thought that the majority of the martial arts were derived from Shaolin....I know the story is something along the lines of: a monastery was invaded and 5 monks survived and fled to an island.

Where they set up a monastery and developed the martial art Shaolin. Other martial arts eg: Karate, kung fu etc all came down from this.

Something like that...Pants can recite a whole fifty chapters of the history by heart Si Fu drummed it into them lol (that's just the part I remember..quite possibly somewhat incorrectly?)

Chang San-feng (ancient Taoist) developed Tai Chi Chuan in Tong Dynasty (6180AD to 907AD)

Chang San-feng lived on Wudang Mountain and the name Wudang was taken to acknowledge Chang San-feng's status as the founder of Tai Chi Chuan.

This martial art of Tai Chi is based on the concepts of The Yin Yang Relationship.

All Kung Fu and Sholin Kung fu is derived from Tai Chi Chuan.

Tai Chi is in itself very comprehensive in meaning. In the philosophical sense it explains everything in the universe. It treats the universe as an unity. The Taoists called this 'Tao'..or "The Way'.

Karate is Japanese and bears no relationship to Tai Chi.

Ta for that

I wasn't 100% sure about the history of Shaolin, and Pants is picking up master 15

Hey, Was there a Tong Dynasty as well as the Tang Dynasty?

The Shaolin Monastery was established though in 497

"The martial arts Shuāi Jiāo and Sun Bin Quan, to name two, predate the establishment of the Shaolin Monastery by centuries"

Martial arts have been around for a billion gaagillion freakin years  eek

We have quite a few Asian clients....they are super particular - usually using 'their own'

But we did a contract for one client...and the word of mouth has been amazing. Once you're in...you're in.

We have been invited out for dinner several times now by clients, and it is fantastic. Sitting down and 'sharing' a meal with them is a real experience...They have such a different way of eating a meal.
I've eaten bloody all sorts  (having to be polite and not embarrass the Pants - who is a little more familiar with fried right yak testicle)  eek

lol...one thing i learnt doing business with chinese is they love to bargain...doesn't matter the price as long as they feel they are getting a discount.

i would work out my price...add 50% then when they would want to bargain i would drop a bit off and BINGO! deal done!
