crystals and gems make really good 'stones' for using in jewellery - and most tumbled stones aren't as expensive as people assume - the jewellers' shops are way over-inflated IMO.

the crystals and gems have a hardnes rating on the mohr scale, which should be easy enough to google. turquoise is softish, but is obviously still used in a lot of jewellery.

really depends on what you are wanting it for.... and do you want to play around with cutting the stone down to shape? and/or engraving it? or play around with setting a more natural tumbled stone? or..???
