It's a crock.

Here is the news.

You may catch the flu this winter.
If you are unlucky, it will be a slightly different strain of flu than you may have had previously.

If you are so weak that this new flu kills you, you would probably have died of the old flu too.

Suck it up.

The immuno depressed and the likes of diabetics and other such health compromised people will probably need medical intevention if they get the bug, regardless.

If you are otherwise healthy but get terribly sick you are probably lacking in essential vitamins and minerals

 Vit C - 1000 mg a day is a small dose compared to what you body can handle / use

Magnesium, a basic macro nutrient that most people again could use a hell of a lot more than they are getting.

then there is selenium, don't need much but is essential to have some on board.
Iodene is over looked as well.

Get your nutrition right and any bug will not be able to get such a foothold as to literally make you sick to death.
