flowers

what would be good flowers for in hanging pots and potplant boxes on balcony that gets a lot of sun?im worried the sun will kill any i get as theres no shade out there and its quite fierce.i really want sunflowers but not an option on the balcony...sigh....

I have some random looking ones in pots, and they dont get wartered much... I know not flowers, but might be more user friendly??
We have a great shop down here called textured plants they have some good ones... may have a web page you can look at to get ideas??

you could try the small varieties of sunflowers, smurf, such as Teddy Bear - can still be grown in pots but not taking up as much room 

ice-plants might do well, portulacas - they all have succulant-type leaves for holding water (I think).

see if www.yates.co.nz have a section for 'plants for particular situations'- always very helpful 

I haven't really done hanging baskets, but I've noticed plants like petunias, lobelia in them.

and remember you can grow veg in pots, and amongst the flowers too (helps hide them from the bugs)

as long as they are watered daily water fuchsias..um impatiens are ideal

oops i forgot i posted this lol thanks guys,i might try the cacti as i have a bad history with plants.im the only person in the world to have turned a venus fly trap anorexic *sigh*
it was covered in heads when i got it but within two months it was dead.it refused too eat.i think it suicided.

for one it must be in full sun, for another I always kept mine in a double pot - ie the pot the plant was in, sat in a wider pot full of water.  give them that and a few flies, they'll cope admirably.
