... off you go then. And don't forget my tea!

Son's wish list for Xmas includes an Ipod Nano  (sounds like something out of Mork and Mindy!) eek .  Could someone please explain the difference between the 2 (I find shops can tend to lean towards a really good sales pitch )  and the simplicity / complexity / software etc.  Oh and in English would help - not techno speak.     Thank you.

MP3 is the file type - an iPod plays MP3s. The nanos are quite good in a lot of ways, but there are also a lot of other non Apple MP3 players that will do the trick too.

iPod's tend to be more expensive, and more fragile, but since they're made by Apple, they're marketed as better than they are, and owning an iPod is more about being 'trendy' than having something reliable to play mp3's on

Ah now I'm getting more confused   eek   I thought MP3s were the type of player (like Walkman, Discman etc) or am I wrong still?!  What other non Apple MP3 players are out there?  Do you mean like Phillips, etc?  Being a 12yr old boy, anything son gets must be sturdy as it 'will travel'

Yep - I'm suspecting it's the 'trendy' aspect coming thru in the 'wish list'

One of my kids has an OMNI mp3, but it doesn't store a lot of songs (and probably isn't on the market anymore, at 256mb
the other kid has a Philips and has stored quite a lot of songs and uses it on long-distance trips, and it was very reasonably priced too - $50-60

An MP3 is the music file, they're played by MP3 Players, and the iPod is a type of MP3 Player
