It's not just a river in Egypt

I suspect the problem is that there is a leak somewhere in the half km of piping but i thought i would check in case it's something with the pump i need to fix.

the pump when turned off shows some pressure (just below the minimum level). turn it on and it goes up to the top level, turns itself off and drops back down to minimum.

i checked the little valve on the side and turned it and water started shooting out so it must be taking water in???

i checked and the stop go valve is on

i know in the past i've had to bleed it but as the pump is getting pressure ok is that necessary? do i need to empty all the water out to make it work or is it definitely a problem in the pipes????

ta in advance
