I used to have software that worked with my old scanner to scan in text into words but I don't have it with this scanner.

I tried googling but couldn't see what I need. I'm looking for a free program that will work with my scanner. Do I need to find one that is compatible with the brand of scanner or can I use any program?

She means, text scanned into editable text, as opposed to an image
