Have to get a new freezer.   

Thinking vertical to fit in the new place.

are verticals still less efficient than chest freezers? I'd certainly much prefer to have a vertical tho 


personally, I think they're all much of a muchness these days  and its more about choosing stainless steel versus the old whiteware 

check for efficiency ratings? and how big do you need it to be? you'll always fit more into a chest, I think.

verticals get more expensive to run than chesties  if you open them a lot. All the cold falls out. eek

I know they used to - but isn't that why they put solid-front drawers on now? or would that not make enough of a diff?

not sure. All new freezers should have an energy consumption sticker on them anyway.
