I don't like the way they back down on fish like that. They say it's for an early release, but I reckon it's more to get their numbers up so their boat gets a better name.

The boys did a bit of dragnet fishing got a dozen flounder, 1 herring and a crab. I did a bit of fishing at Oysterworld in Rotorua - which I highly recommend, big fat juicy oysters to die for  The fellow in there was a bit of a drongo but OMG, big fat juicy oysters to die for, did I say really big and really creamy and juicy and fat...

I think theres been an algae bloom up the East Coast - would usually head out to Maketu for kiamoana but not safe at the moment, I wonder if that has affected the snapper. Otherwise some Aholes dumping off illegal fish maybe.

Oysters btw get the oysters! They come from the Bay of Islands.

Tuna Math confuses me.

A can of tuna is about $2.90 for 185grams

Which is $15.67 / Kg

so 415Kg at that price would be $6503.05

so how do they make money?

I know the Japs pay heaps for it as well.

I read an article last year I think where the Japs paid close to a million bucks for a tuna.

Maybe depends too on type of tuna.

Are you sure it's got nothing to do with climate change? We've had orcas cruising the harbour over the summer, I've le\ived in Wellington all my life I'm sure my Grandfather would have told me if Orcas, and sharks were regular visitors to the harbour.

I was staying in Newlands when I was 14 or 15, so was about 1989-1990, would have been May or August holidays and me and my friend went down to go fishing in the harbour just below Newlands and some orca swam past, was funny you heard the swearing fisherman first trying to get their lines in before you saw them

True, I've never really taken much notice, and we spent most of our time fishing up north so perhaps me Pappy wasn't interested either.

Over the years though there hasn't been a great deal of articles regarding orca visitors to the harbour that I can think of.

Not at all. We have had Blues here all my life, we call them gumboots cos that's what they fight like.   They're a pain in the arse, cos once they arrive, they will eat every fish you catch off your line and you can't get rid of the f**kers.
