Well i know I'm getting bad withdrawals, haven't been out for some time now, and with the weather the way it is, it doesn't look like I'm going to get out in the near future either. Any one else finding them selves in this predicament. Howdy Red

Hey Ftroop. Yep I woke up this morning to a bloody 30 knot easterly again, I have not had a line in the water since Queens birthday weekend, the weather has just been so foul. Looking forward to longer days and being able to get out after work again.

What species Dab?

Trout = 11 pound.
snapper = about 15 pound.
Kingi = only average.

I've got a few good makos but as yet no billfish, and still to catch my first yellowfin.

cool.

first fish i caught was a trout in Taupo when i was a kid. 4 pound i think.
biggest snapper about bigger than pan size.
i caught a yellowfin in Fiji, dunno how heavy but was about 1 metre long. i was the only one to catch tuna that day cus the sharks were hungry.
i never forget the workup. was about quater the size of a rugby field with yellowfin jumping 5ft out! amazing.

A metre long is a good yellowfin, maybe  30kg?
A workup is one of the most incredible things you can witness in the sea, like you said, tuna etc leaping out of the water, gannets and other birds plummeting out of the sky, just carnage everywhere.
We were trolling out behind Red Mercury last year and we saw a Minke whale up ahead. We decided not to get too close so we headed away to port a bit, then bugger me, another one blew just about 30 metres off our port side, and another one on our starboard side. We just had to keep going ahead, we were s**tting ourselves.
Right in amongst it all,  the birds started working and we were in the middle of this huge meatball of bait and birds....and bloody great whales.
It was one of the most amazing, and nerve wracking sights Ive ever seen.

   yep looked at water in the creek next to work and it looked like pure mud, tis a tidal creek. Don't know if i would like to take boat out in the harbour at the mo, seen what floated down the creek the last week or so, and i think there would be too many obstacles out there to try and dodge...

The mako was 302.6, bosses wife caught that on a womens tournament, also got into the 10to1club with it. Boss was and still is keen as on game fishing, ex president of tutukaka boat club/marina, etc. Been out a couple of times with him for marlin, but nothing around at the time. Bloody bugger has now sold his boat and has decided camper vanning is now his forte. I think if i'm ever going to get a marlin, it will have to be on a charter.....

I'm going to get a marlin this season if it kills me! I would love to get one from my little boat and I have a cunning plan too..

My boss is the same, he just bought a motorhome and is selling his launch so thats a bit of a bummer.

I have met a few of the guys from the Tutukaka club at the weighstation but more familiar with the boat names than the angler names.
