Yesterday we were being told that the opening night fiasco at Queen's Wharf would not be repeated because the venue would not attract that kind of crowd again.....

Today the Government has invoked special powers to take control of the entire downtown area.

Damage control much?

How is it that the government can jump in, apportion blame, and snatch control of the Auckland City Council's rugby arrangements within a week.........

..........but is only just starting to investigate how 29 men ended up dead at Pike River mine?

although that's probably the best speech john key has ever given, why did he actually have to go onto the pitch and stand with the all blacks?
is he on the reserves or has he volunteered to be towel boy in the locker room?

Because the PR gurus who run the party told him to.

John Key has held an ambition to be Prime Minister since he was a snotty little kid.Who can blame him for cashing in on his celebrity status while the country quietly turns to s**t?

rhetorical really,
but i think it was an error to walk out smiling (and who'd blame him, i would too if i was on the field with the AB's in the world cup) when it was a solemn moment of silence for both countries. i'd have thought he'd be with the Japanese ambassador and other officials, doing official things.

meh, too picky i guess

meanwhile back at the game.....   i wonder if they will let japan get a sympathy try

No doubt the fans will be suitably impressed with what is obviously a mismatch.

If you're going to a cup match, at least go to one that might go either way.

They look like little kids playing against the AB's, their little legs are going hard out and the AB's just take a few casual strides and catch up

been catching up on this Samoan-mouthguard-fine/England swapping balls thing.

Is there anything in the rules that says the ball can/not be swapped during a game/to kick penalties?

Who had the microscope out looking at mouthgaurds? Even expanding the pics available, I can't see any branding.

Is all a sad example of whats happened to the game.

If the IRB can strongarm a government into changing it's laws to add value  to their sponsorship arrangements, it comes as no surprise that they'll stab their own people in the back if they fail to do as they are told by the advertisers.

There was a time when the IRB  was expected to do what was best for the game, not the other way around.

IRB will make a nice proffit from this, NZ rugby will be making a nice loss.
and people thought the announcement that the all blacks wouldn't be able to afford to
go to the next world cup was all hype.
