just watching 'Edwardian farm'
 and this was a recipe for keeping slugs and snails off the strawberries, sprinkled around the strawberry patch!!

they had some strange ideas back then. i remember seeing on the 'L ost Gardens of Halligen" they said that back then they also used nicotine as an insecticide... it also used to kill gardeners as well as the bugs

they are now using nicotine and sulphur in a sheep dip!!
