The new PSP (called at times NGP or PSP2) is getting closer and closer ... this will be the best thing to happen to portable gaming EVER. It's everything the first PSP should have been.

In this thread I will try to keep everyone up-to-date on the NGP, but here's a page to read if you're curious:

http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/PSP/NGP-PSP-2/10166953/

Three awesome points:

1. It will FINALLY have 2 joysticks instead of (as in the past) 1 joystick and a D pad. That made it way too hard to play FPSs on, but now, FPS title will come barreling out of the game companies.
2. It will be so powerful as to be able to handle games almost on a par with full consoles, such as its big brother, the PS3. There's even talk of people on PSP's being able to play along with others on a PS3 playing the same title.
3. As well as having motion sensors in all directions, it will have a touch-pad on the BACK that matches the screen on the front, looking down, you will have an intuitive feel as to where to reach on the back of the unit to move things you can see on the screen. This means being able to use touch elements in games without your hand blocking half the screen when you do so. (Or, in my case, all of YOUR screen and some of the screens of anyone else also standing nearby with a PSP, because of having huge ham-hock Frankenstein monster hands).

PSP NGP should arrive in a few months in NZ, and should be not too far off the price of the older PSPs. To be able to do this, Sony will have to (as they did with the PS3) absorb a bulk of the unit cost themselves and sell it at a loss, hoping to make it back in game titles.

More to follow ...

The device has finally been officially named: Vita.

Here's a review:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/8568816/PlayStation-Vita-hands-on-preview.html

Adding that second thumbstick is the mostest bestest thing Sony could have done, and will open the console up at both ends, for the players and the game developers

Bah ha haaa ... at church I often get surrounded by a neat bunch of guys from the Youth Group all asking about games advice and news (none of the other grown ups give a toss or would see gaming as worth wasting time on). I did such a huge sell on the new PSP yesterday that I made an even bigger believer out of myself. I think I'll cry when I first get to hold one LOL

Since my Credit Card details went AWOL, Sony can suck my fat one. I have one Sony device in the house, and I haven't even plugged it in since I got the Sorry our security is s**t email. I should have just brought a Bluray player and told the sales man go jump when he suggested the PS3.

And the constant upgrading gets up my nose. Just about everytime I feel like a quick game of something, it wants to do another bloody upgrade. Sometimes the games won't even run until the PS3 is upgraded. Oh, and the disk drive is getting screwed. Disks don't always drop into place and spin, and it allows you to stuff as many disks in as you want.

As you can tell, I will not be buying a PSP2, or what ever they call it.

I don't have an xbox, I'm not likely to either. I have 3 games on ps3, all car racing. The mostly gather dust lost in the wrong covers. I don't have time for games these days.
