i regret that i have no psychic ability, so have no idea of the ship you're thinking about.

but here's a list of royal navy ships from 1800

well, i didn't see the point in putting details if there was no one who could help

had a look on that site, thanks, but it just lists what i've already found -basically just the captain.

the ship is the hms driver - and there were two, one was commissioned later in the 1840s, but the one i want was commissioned about 1797 for the british admiralty. i was hoping to be able to find out what exactly it did, what battles it saw, a crew list maybe.

i just discovered today that a g+grandfather listed as being on there at time of his marriage, 1802, in scotland.

Two ships of the Royal Navy have borne the name HMS Driver:

HMS Driver was an 18-gun sloop launched in 1797. Beginning in 1825, she was used as a convict ship, and was broken up in 1834.
HMS Driver was a wooden paddle sloop launched in 1840. She was wrecked in 1861 near Mariguana Island.

I'm gonna have to do a bit of digging here, could come up with all sorts of interesting things but side-tracked

and here's a mention
http://www.royal-navy.org/lib/index.php?title=Captain_Love_%28Anec.%29

interesting stuff, but tis the latter one, which is unfortunately far past when my ancestor was aboard.

thanks jj
