Better that no community is disturbed by terrorists whatever there nature.

Let's get this  right out there.....

Are you implying that the people that we have appointed to maintain law and order in this country are committing acts of terrorism?

Read the last link, even the powers that be were disturbed over the nature of the raids. They didn't realise young children and the elderly were going to have the living daylights scared out of them - they were terrified.

I see butt covering in the wake of a failed prosecution. Had the police been able to present all of the evidence that they gathered,I have no doubt that there would have been more defendants, and more convictions.

As for the familes of the suspects, perhaps the suspects should have considered the consequences of their actions more carefully before fuelling up on bravado and bulls**t.

if the police had acted within the law when they went after the ureweras answers to osama then there would have been a different outcome.

Agreed......but then who would ever have guessed that in the twenty first century our police force did not have the authority to make covert recordings of events for evidential purposes?

they do, but they decided to pursue this using brand new untested anti terrorist legislation that was very badly and very quickly written and passed.

they have greater far reaching powers now because of this, and the new legislation brought in to replace the dodgey stuff that screwed up the case.

So, is it fair to say that our police are now better equipped to keep us safe from any genuine terror threats? And that included in those safeguards is legislation that prevents clowns like Iti from the terrorist equivalent of making bad jokes about bombs in airport terminals?

no it's fair to say that everyone is now lumped into the same class as those clowns, we are all now suspects and can be spied upon without any reasonable cause.
Now even a dog ranger has the right to search you and your property if they so feel like it, and can even obtain consent from your own GP.

sure that's  taking the law to its extreme but the fact remains we now no longer have the basic rights we used to.
You don't feel like answering mr plods questions? that now costs you a year in jail, so when they come asking about what your friends and neighbours have been doing you'd better start spilling the beans.

and it's all thanks to bloody johnny scibbleface running around trying to be rambo.

The system is us

Therefore not perfect or without flaw

It would have been irresponsible and negligent of the system not to have reacted given the information  at hand.

The only problem was the amount of force that was used, but how much force is appropriate when you're trying to apprehend those who claim to be members of a revolutionary military wing and have access to assault style weapons and have been actively training in combat methods. ???
