why would a downloaded program, which has been working fine for the last couple of years, suddenly not open?

i click on the icon.....the computer thinks about it....then just plain refuses to proceed, not even issuing an excuse note 

i can't even seem to get it to run as admin

try running check disc
it might have mislayed some info on where the program is

could be an instance already running that's crashed, ctrl-alt-delete to see if there is or restart and try again - if it still does it, then I have no idea, maybe a faulty update

i did have to pull the plug twice this week as i got one of those java-piggy-backing scripts that pretended to be a warning 

but as i haven't run this particular program for months i can't say if that's what might have affected it

will try the suggestions, thanks guys
