or to an engineer  they can tell what state the metal is in.

if the rego has lapsed, then it may have to be treated as if its a brand new trailer, but if its sound and meets spec then likely not a problem.

nice gift

surface rust doesn't seem to be a problem, mine has a lot of it but always passes. the chassis is sound, no holes or anything.
one day i'll get it sandblasted and undercoated, but i've being saying that for a long time

As long as the chassis is still sound and the tyres are decent, it would be worth getting the lights working and taking it for a WOF just to see.If the plate has expired, different story, ask an expert.

if it's lapsed for mare than 2 years (used to be that) it's a total new reg, otherwise just a wof and pay the reg, it starts from that day, no back reg.

All 100% true, but the guts of the question is does the trailer comply with the current requirements for a new trailer registration, and will cosmetic rust be enough to stop it  from qualifying for a new certificate?

didn't with mine, all it needed was a warrant, and pay the money at the AA for the rego and new plates

You have a trailer?

loony.

I spend less a year on renting trailers than I would just warranting and registering one!

you're not sharing it, you're at the same collection tank at the same time, and you take a turn in emptying
your loo into the tank, and politely exchange hellos,  you aren't sharing anything

Different with a trailer, you can rego it without a warrant. Not too expensive. Rego lapses after 12 months nowadays.
