it is, but with the amount of decoders out there and the different models, the software can't do
everything correctly on every box. sky have had bugs in the system for years and they don't move quick
to correct them, it's easier to send a tech with a new decoder.

cool, they will now upgrade the installation by drilling big 25mm holes in your wall running twin coax, and putting in a quad LNB,
and give you a freshly reconditioned decoder.

Sky is probably one of my least favourite companies, they charge the earth and give you f**k all in return, except Shark Week

I hate Sky - can't wait until there's more competition so they will drop their price and give more real content

There won't be competition with what they do, it will move to online and on demand, only other thing is the sports, but they manage to get exclusive rights for everything, they spend most of the money they get from their subscribers securing it and put repeats on every other channel - we need it for the kids channels though to keep the child happy, I wouldn't want it at all otherwise Bah Humbug

In the late 90's I had to go to their site twice a week; was interesting watching them make stuff and peek in the studios

nobody has the money to compete.
if people stopped subscribing or refused to pay the excessive subscriptions
sky wouldn't have the money to buy the rights to
a lot of content giving others a chance. NZ is one of the least regulated countries
when it comes to broadcasting. sky have rights to programs they don't even screen
so anyone who wants to screen them has to deal with sky and pay them for it.
the government has decided they can't be bothered with broadcasting and is happy for
sky to be the countries default provider.
If it wasn't for sky we would have had access to things like netflix by now, but sky
wont allow access rights to content in nz to keep any competition out.
