bravery in the midst of adversity

« on: Sat 13 October, 2007 - 09:05 pm »

Daughter went to her room to watch babe on dvd through her PS2, we have had this thing since march, and i have even watched 18+ movies on it

yet tonight it wont let her watch babe cos of a parental lock

uh, hello, i am parent, never locked it

she swears she had never seen anything like it, or had anything coming up asking for numbers before

so managed to find a web page that has the code to clear the password so you can reset it, so i managed to do that

but couldnt work out how to turn the parental lock off

i have got it working so dvd works for tonight, but my guess is that it will ask for code next time (at least i know it now)

so while the internet saved my bacon for tonight, anyone know how to turn the lock off so it never asks for it again?

Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under custom setup.

When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".

The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".

Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.

thanks sammy

the select 7444 was what i used to get it to work last night, but it had a dvd in it, so that will be why it keep coming up and asking for it again

so will go give it a go now with no dvd in it

well the only way i can get the parental lock to come up is with a dvd in it, and then it just says "temporarily change parental lock level to 7?"

it wont let me select anything except yes or no, yes gets me to enter password, no means it wont play the dvd

i looked in system config which comes up with no dvd in it but no option in there for parental lock

is there somewhere else i need to look?

After you enter password, can you eject disc, close the drawer and push and hold the reset button?

Also SB, the process you tried above only works  if, after the DVD has started playing, you choose STOP from the control panel first, THEN follow the instructions. If the DVD is just paused, it will not work.

ok, from that link i have found where parental control can be changed, thing is it wont let me do it

in the set up menu (which i got to by pressing select when dvd started) it highlights options in blue, but for some reason the parental lock option isnt highlighted when i move to it, and it wont let me do anything

it does this when i enter the menu both before i am asked for my password to play dvd and after i have entered password

Try this:

"Turn off parental lock
Insert a DVD. When the movie starts, press Select to go to the menu. Find the "Setup" icon and select it. When in the setup menu, press Right(2) to get to the custom setup. Go down to "Parental Control" and press Right to go to "Region", then go down to go to "Level". You can now turn the parental control on or off, and/or change the password.

Change or delete parental lock
Press Start when prompted to enter the code. Once you get to where you enter the numbers, press Start and you will be asked if you want to delete it. You can also enter another code instead of deleting it. Here is the master password: 7444."

Some people may have stored the instructions wrong on the Net, so follow exactly and we will find the right one.

In above quote, try the first one ('Turn Off').

When you get to Parental  Control, can you push RIGHT and then go down to Level, or won't it let you do that either?
