Son has decided he now wants to save for an Xbox  :strange:   He's had a PS2 and a PSP in the past.  What's the difference (aside from the 'live'  part)?  Are they worth it?  (this is a question from someone who never plays on these things   :hehehe: )

PS 3 and XBOX 360 are kind of on a par; a lot of the same games (though there are some exclusives). XBOX Live is not too expensive if you buy a few months at a time; Playstation has a free online thing, but then they just got hacked for players details and it caused a huge global problem. If i had the money, I would have both. Having to choose, it would be the 360. But I'm not a fanboi or a hater ... they are just a matter of personal taste :ok:

Thankies   :-D   I believe is his preference is for the 360 ...  Will do some looking around.  Are they worth buying 2nd hand or is it something we should steer clear of and go for new?

New ones are not too expensive these days, and you get a warranty. Try comparing the prices at JB Hi-Fi, Mighty Ape, Noel Leeming/Bond & Bond and Dick Smith's. If you have a big Harvey Norman close by, look at them too. They all seem good at backing their stuff. Make sure you don't get the 4GB model or he will scream. Look for a big HDD model. :ok:

Thank you again.  Mmmm - making mental note re son and screaming - rather unappealing! wonders if HDD is shorthand for Heavy Duty Dollero   :hehehe:

Can you play XBox games on XBox 360?  Son's mate has a couple son wants to borrow but no point if they can't play  :shakehead:

You can play only some of them; here's a list

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-games/play-original-games

:ok:

This happens with all consoles when they make newer versions of them. The change in hardware means that some of the games (designed only for that older system) won't play with all the changes. I think the only time this was avoided completely was when the original Playstation gave way to the PS 2, but only because Sony actually put the chips for BOTH machines into the PS 2. Doing the same thing nowadays would make the cost of the consoles (a large chunk of which is already being absorbed by the companies) prohibitive. And especially as they get to the 3rd iterations of both; it would mean the buggers having 3 separate chips in them. Hope this helps :jump:
