cos i want to layer the clothes. i already have sweatshirts with zips and i probably have a hoodie one somewhere, but i don't tend to wear them as i have a coat i wear. but for the bottom layers of clothing i just want plain sweatshirts - no zips or hoodies as putting several layers all with zip openings or hoodies doesn't work. i feel the cold big time. even with sexy (not) thermal undergarments

you can get a chilli pepper concentrate from your local health shop. they are tasteless and will help with cold. quite a few of the surfers here take em and god knows we need anything we can get to keep the chill off when surfing the southern ocean.

never heard of that before but it sounds good to me
will check it out

do you know anything that stops your nasal passages from reacting to the cold? i virtually have to wear a mask in the winter (and it would be a lot warmer here in sunny northland) because my nose reacts to the cold and sneezes and snivels. been to the doctor and naturopath and no solution!!

Southland last yr had more sunshine hrs than anywhere else in NZ., and less rain. i'v lived up north and sure it's a little bit warmer..not 'a lot' warmer...but it's a damn site wetter and damper up north than here.

and....when a southerly blow comes through it doesn't get warmer as it goes north...infact it does the opposite. the cold southerly gets chilled further by the snowcapped southern alps as it picks up a wind chill.

I dunno where the northerners have got the idea that its always cold here. it's not uncommon to get in excess of 36dgrs in summer...by far the hottest i have ever felt the sun in this country, including the far north, gissy, coro, etc.....and our summer days last atleast 4 hrs longer than the summer days up north.

anyway..rant over.

as for your q re: nasel passages...ummm no.

may i suggest a teaspoon of quickdry concrete? devil
