Just got a wireless headset for the XBOXy that handles the game sounds and mixes the voice chat in. There is a seperate volume for both, so you can mix them until you're comfy with it. Gosh ... it REALLY changes gameplay with a headset!! Suddenly you can hear EVERYTHING ... often you are able to hear someone walking up on your position, or the cocking of a weapon, that you'd normally miss just with TV speakers. The level of immersion is so much better too. A lot of these games are produced with a high standard of work going into the sound which is normally lost. I played a game today and I could hear the wind around me whenever I was out in the snow, and could hear distant gunfire etc too, alerting me to where the action was. Normally you have to rely on the onscreen radar, but some people opt for the 'silencer' mod which means they don't show up on he radar when they fire. But often you can hear the direction they are in when they fire, and this gives you a better chance of avoiding their fire, or finding them for a kill As well, you can actually hear the direction of MOST off screen sounds, giving you a much more intuitive sens of where to head to, or away from, depending on the situation. Coz of costs being an issue, I went for the Turtle Beach X31 - bout as cheap as wireless gaming headsets get, but still 1. surprisingly good quality, 2. set up from opening the box was like 3 minutes. PS: Found this review of another model of headset online: Pros: It's great, wearing this headset actually makes me feel like a better person. They look good, they feel good, they smell great, they sound incredible.
Cons: When I'm not wearing them I feel bad.

Oh, and added note: In the olden days, headsets often had padding right on your ears, which mean after a while, they got uncomfortable. But with these and MOST of the Turtle Beach range, the padding is AROUND the ears, and the earpieces form a cup over the whole ear, not sit on top of them. As well as hardly being able to feel them when they're on, they also have NO negative effects effects comfort-wise, no matter how long you play.
