its going to make motel type installs alot less complicated once you get the hang of the gear init?
it will where you are using terrestrial digital, but in a place where they signal is via satellite, you will have to either have a satellite box in every room, or a headend with 18+ boxes remodulated onto COFDM for the new sets to tune in, and at $4k trade for a unit to do two channels it becomes a bit pricey. although i guess for that many channels one of the big rack units with the plug in modules like the ones matchmaster do would be more cost effective

in saying that will nz stop importing tvs with analogue tuners? could you not just go a bit old school and just run a few more decoders to give people the basics?

don't know, if they do stop analogue tv's then it's going to get expensive for small
scale installations out of the main centres especially.

nah those profilers are easy. all done of the knob on the front.
push to select the mode turn it to set, push to exit. auto tune UHF and you can split the UHF into different "blocks" and assign set channels to the block so it only amps them, like a channelised headend. band 1 and band 3 seperate inputs too as well as a combined input.
diplexes the satellite signal on that model too.
so pretty much handle most situations.
except when the suppliers send aerials that aren't suited... but thats another story.
i need sleep

sorry to butt in  but, someone told me that Southland doesn't have HD tv yet - do you know if this is true JJ? I mean it seems crazy that all the shops are selling HD tvs then  eek

and one of the retailers told me the other day that they have no idea what will happen or be necessary once the tv signal is switched to digital  eek

If you can't get terry signals, then you'll have to have satty ones, so you'll get the channels but they won't be HD, they'll be SD. BUT ... at least if you watch movies etc on the right stuff (Blu-Ray etc) you'll get nice HD pics.

what are the input outputs ?  composite or component?
and there is expansion planned for Southland, it's planned for forest hill, so invers is ok but points north are uncertain.
could be ok with a high gain aerial/amp install.

ideally the tv will have an HDMI input to take the HDMI output from the lappy.
if it doesn't then you can get a converter to use another input, but of course you
won't get the full benefit of the high definition output of the lappy.

meanwhile....

the MAC 201 works just fine

a bit of shagging about, some settings needed tweeking and a bit of confusion
with some of the video compression settings, but it's not unexpected since it's
the first one in the country
