The OS for the iPhone 5 has been released, and it can be used on phones as far back as mine (not ALL the features will work, but many will) and all later model iPod Touch units too! Am downloading and installing it now! You can ask your phone, 'What's happening today?' and it just opens the calendar for the day!

Reminders can be set for physical contexts instead of just for time, for example, you can get your phone to remind you to so something when you get to a place, and it will remind you when you physically arrive there

You can set it to remind you to wipe your ass when you go to the toilet, then remind you to wash your hands after you leave

Never really liked the voice control features, my 3GS has a version as does my apple desktop yet it feels dorky speaking to a device, although there is some interaction, I let go a string of highly abusive language at the desktop one day when it didn't understand between 'what day is it' and 'what time is it' and was promptly told that my message was innappropriate and rude

It's still a bit gimmicky, hopefully there won't be hoards of iwankers talking to their phones in public now

Hmmm maybe I looked at the wrong thing on the website although at $85 a month you can pay for it in a year. I was thinking of using 2 degrees.

Will hunt down my paper and check

Think I'd rather buy it direct if I can get a good deal

I am waiting on some prices on the 4s (don't get a 4); I should be able to get some hundreds of dollars cheaper than retail. I'll stay behind the market like that myself until I'm working again - would get a 5 if I could afford it

It's my own. Me and a buddy made it. My only other book was with Ashton Scholastic a million years ago:

They made about $72, 000 nett from that book and I saw very little. So even if I sell way less, if I do them myself, I might get more $$

Sounds good.
cute book and great illustrations

Are you a member of NZSA? I do digital publishing and have decided that I will do all my books digitally and maybe some POD. I'm not going to bother with micro print runs. Eventually though I want to e-publish other people's books because I enjoy the business, strategy and marketing side of things. Writing bores me.

Don't forget to PM me when you know about the iphone. I definitely want one if the price is right

Will do

I'm just hoping to make this thing a little boutique children's publishing label, specializing in giving people their first book. I've already located a woman that has written quite a decent little book and done some great artwork; might offer to publish it for her and see how it goes. And then I have a bunch of ideas half started on the puter. Small boutique publishers are all the thing in America, and it's a very fulfilling thing to be involved in, creatively

There are lots of talented writers out there. The challenge isn;t in producing the book, it's the marketing and distribution. (P.S. if you're looking at a distributor I dealt with one a few years ago that I would NOT recommend so if you get to that stage I'll tell you who it is so you can avoid the prick).
Good luck! Getting the contracts right will be important so I hope you have a lawyer that knows publishing. A lot of them don't understand it and charge a fortune for rubbish.

NZSA isn't great for non fiction writers but there is useful info, good networking and they help with legal advice. Up here in Northland we have a good email loop with industry news. Personally I think digital publishing is the way to go. Kids books on ipads etc are big sellers. You could do that and tap into an international market.

Yah, things are not so hard to get into now as 20 years ago when I did that book. The friend that is in the label with me has a long background in printing etc and has a bunch of good contacts from friends in the industry. Yah, will be good to have that name later to avoid them

I will look into the digital printing thing in time, but at the moment love the idea of a kid holding a book and turning pages, or a parent with kid on their knee and book in other hand, reading like that

Geeze? Unable to have a nuanced life much? The Kindle is for stuff that I want to read on the go, and be able to carry heaps of it without having to choose when I go out anywhere (and at the moment, mostly academic titles). That doesn't mean I can't, don't or won't enjoy a physical book at certain times and for different reasons

You're such a romantic!

Having somone how understands the printing biz is a big plus. It's always fun doing things yourself if you've got the right people to work with. That's always the hardest bit - getting to know which people know their stuff and getting rid of the time wasters. Look forward to the big launch of your next book!

Yah, samez. I don't ever store really significant info, only stuff that matters or make sense to ME. To have it encrypted and in the Cloud in case I ever lose my phone etc makes me feel good. I can deregister the phone if it ever gets lost or stolen, and then access all the info with a new phone as if nothing has changed. Awesomeness

I'm learning to bargain Middle Eastern style. I wait til he gives me the products, and then a day later I just give him some money. He tries for another day to work out how much that means for each unit, and then comes back to discuss it. I deliberately aim low so I can make a big deal about giving him a little more, and then we shake hands, deal done.

Well, truth is, they ARE worth a good price. They are a very good model, much better than the first 4 model that came out. But when we're so close to9 the 5, it's silly to pay a premium price when, given a short time, the new one will knock this price down. And of course, were I able, I woulg get the 5, but the 4s will be me til I'm working again.
